SKINARIA
South of the island of Crete, discover the wild bay of Skinaria: amidst goats and olive trees. Accessible to both beginners and certified divers.
The turquoise blue water, fabulous visibility, and the topography make this site one of Crete's must-visit spots.
"The wild and crystal-clear Libyan Sea" (beach diving)
Starting from our diving school to get equipped (meeting at 8:30 AM), we drive approximately 50 minutes south of the island towards Plakias.
We strongly encourage our divers and guests with their own transportation to follow us: Skinaria is located between Preveli and its stunning palm grove, the Kourtageotis gorges, and Plakias. After the activity, resting in the shade of the waterfalls is a delight. Otherwise, we have vans available to take us there and transport our guests without their own vehicle, as well as all necessary equipment.
We offer both beginner dives and dives for our experienced divers (possibility of deep dives up to 38 meters), and the Shrimp Cave is truly charming with its light well and colorful sponges.
Flora and fauna: groupers, moray eels, lionfish (which are becoming increasingly common), scorpionfish, pufferfish (very friendly and playful!), squids and octopus, colorful wrasses (wrasses are always mischievous and playful, and have very beautiful colors), Mediterranean parrotfish, juvenile barracudas, lobster, and mantis shrimp… Some very beautiful gilt-head bream parade in the cove!
When lucky, you can observe juvenile rays near the shore, and adults along the drop-off. Nudibranchs, large sponges, and colorful encrustations...
DIVERS: We generally offer two consecutive dives (with a break of about fifty minutes between the two, depending on the depths reached).
INTRODUCTORY DIVES: It is possible to do one or two dives (if you wish to do two dives, please let us know so that we can bring enough tanks).
Since we usually finish the diving activity around 1:30 PM, and everyone starts to get hungry, we suggest a stop at the local tavern to grab a bite and refresh. It is always very friendly
